Q*bert Video (Bad Sync)I recently sold a Q*bert I was restoring. This game took a year to restore as there was so much that needed repair. I’ve written some posts regarding fixing the control panel and video orientation. As part of the deal with the buyer, I offered to install a new monitor he purchased. A seemingly 1 hour job turned into 6 hours. I had the buyer purchase a 19″ horizontal standard resolution monitor from Arcadeshop Amusements. I know, I know… Q*bert uses a vertical monitor. Arcadeshop only sells a horizontal monitor and I wanted to use the old monitor’s frame. Using the old frame allows an easier installation of the new picture tube into the game. I stripped the old monitor frame of its picture tube and video board. I moved the new picture tube into the old frame and mounted the new video board as well. I had to drill some new holes into the old frame so I could mount the new video board properly. After mounting everything and hooking up the connections, I powered on the game. After trying to adjust the video sync adjustments for an hour, I found I could only get most of the picture to show. The playing field was narrow, the “P” in the “PUSH ONE OR TWO…” was missing, and the left most cube was cut off.
